Job Description

Our Hospitalist team a the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, is seeking an internist to join their growing practice. Opportunity to provide inpatient care to patients at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview on both the Riverside campus and the University campus. The hospitalist program established on the University campus involves serving as the attending physician for medical students and residents. Hospitalist role will also include seeing some patients independently through consults and patients that exceed the patient cap on the resident teams/firms. BC/BE in Internal Medicine required. Experience teaching in academic setting is a plus. Overall goal of this hospitalist group is to provide great teaching, excellent clinical outcomes and ability to provide consult service to surgical specialty patients.

Practice Information

This is a growing and evolving Hospitalist Service that provides patient care for the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, which is located on both the Riverside and University campuses. Hospitalist group works with the acute rehab service, the transition care unit and some teaching with the family medicine and internal medicine residents at the University of Minnesota. Role will include leading quality care initiatives, consult service and independent (non-teaching) patient care. The schedule includes day/evening shifts but may grow to provide 24/7 coverage on the University Campus. Separate House Officer (Night Float) system currently in place. Candidates for this position will need to have flexibility and a willingness to change as program grows and develops over time. Physician attendance and involvement is key to the development of this Hospitalist Service.

Practice Setting

The University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview is a large quantanary care center. Practice would include primarily following complex medicine patients in a variety of settings including the Acute Rehab unit, Transition Care Unit and inpatient, acute Hospital care units. Intensive care units are staffed with Critical Care Intensivists, fellows and residents and not the Hospitalist service. Electronic medical record and digital imaging through PACS system utilized at this hospital with physician order entry.
