Pathology Associates, P.C. is a private professional corporation which contracts with John D. Archbold Hospital of Thomasville, GA to manage laboratories in Thomasville and four affiliate hospitals in surrounding counties. The group currently consists of four AP/CP board certified pathologists whose practice experience ranges from four to thirty years. The group dates back to the founding of Archbold Hospital in the 1920’s. The credentials of the current pathologists include residency and fellowship training at the Medical college of Georgia, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Emory University, Duke Medical Center, and MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. The Archbold Hospital Laboratory in Thomasville has been CAP certified for 25 years, and the blood bank AABB certified for 20 years. Member of the pathology group currently serve on the Executive, Bylaws, and Cancer Committees of the Medical Staff. The Blood and Tissue, and Infection Control Committees are chaired by pathologists. A pathologist is Secretary/Treasurer of Health South Alliance, a local managed care contracting organization operated jointly by the hospital and medical staff. Another pathologist holds an active appointment as Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Florida State University.
Clinical services proved in Archbold Hospital system include Chemistry, Immunology, Hematology, Urinalysis, Microbiology, Blood Bank, Cytology, and Surgical Pathology. The laboratories of Archbold and the four affiliate hospitals are united under a single information system that allows simultaneous access to patient data through the system. The laboratories have an outreach program covering much of Southwest Georgia.
With the exception of providing frozen section coverage at one affiliate hospital, Anatomic Pathology services are centralized at Archbold Hospital Laboratory in Thomasville. Approximate annual volumes in this area include 11,000 surgical specimens, 150 bone marrows, 250 fine needle aspiration biopsies, 11,000 GYN cytology specimens, and 425 non-GYN cytologies. Technologies employed the Surgical Pathology laboratory include the Sukura Xpress microwave tissue processor and automated Ventana immunostaining system.
Pathology Associates, P.C. is looking for pathologist who has or will be eligible for AP/CP board certification. Experience in performing and interpreting FNA’s is essential. Training experience in GI pathology is desirable.
